Anthony Evans was indicted on one count of Murder Thursday in connection to the death of Hayden Smith, 30, who was shot and killed outside of Spanky P’s bar on S 7th Street the early morning hours of October 27.
Court documents filed during the investigation reveal more about the events that led to the shooting.
Most of the incident was captured on surveillance video from the bar, which showed Smith slapping Evans during a confrontation in the patio area.
Following this confrontation, the documents state Evans then told Smith to come outside and began waiting for him by his vehicle.
The documents state that when Smith left the bar and started to head toward his own vehicle, Evans confronted him in the parking lot, pointed a handgun at him, and fired at least two times once Smith tried to start a physical alteration. The documents also clarify that Smith did not appear to be armed at any time.
Smith collapsed in the parking lot and later died at the hospital. Evans fled the scene but was identified by a bartender and later arrested once surveillance footage allowed investigators to confirm he was the suspect.
Evans now remains held in jail on a $300,000 bond.
