Teddy Mills was indicted on a Murder charge Thursday in connection to the death of Dayshaun Colen, who was killed in a crowd outside the Bravo Hookah Lounge on N 6th Street in October.
Court documents describe Mills’ account of the fatal shooting, saying he told officers that Colen had been “getting mouthy” and that the crowd started pushing in when he was yelling at them and trying to shut the door.
Mills then, “said the guy in the white shirt, the one he shot, was threatening him. He said the guy told him he was gonna get him,” the documents state.
Finally, Mills said he drew his firearm when the crowd pushed in and he felt “them” grabbing his taser, according to the documents.
Investigators also spoke to a bystander who had his arm around Colen at the time of the shooting.
This bystander was attempting to detain Colen when the shooting happened, and the documents state he told investigations he did not believe Colen needed to be shot and that he did not see any weapons in Colen’s possession or in the crowd.
“Additionally, the video of the incident seemed to confirm the fact that [this bystander] had control of the victim at the time he was shot by the said Teddy Lee Mills,” the documents state.
Mills is currently being booked into the Taylor County Jail. BigCountryHomepage.com will update this article once his mugshot and bond information is released
