Indicted: Abilene music teacher allegedly met student at Redbud park, local hotels for sex

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene ISD music teacher accused of meeting a high school student at Redbud park and local hotels for sex over the course of her senior year has been indicted.

Lawrence Grigg was indicted Thursday on two counts of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student and one count of Child Grooming in connection to the allegations.

Court documents detail the alleged improper relationship between Grigg, who was serving as an orchestra director, and a senior at Cooper High School that began in November 2023.

The documents state a family member of the student discovered messages between this student and Grigg while using their home computer in July.

In several of the messages, “affectionate terms are used by both Grigg and [the student] in reference to one another and describe acts of sexual contact,” the documents state.

During a subsequent interview with detectives, the documents state this student said she has known Grigg since 2020 and that their relationship became physically intimate when she met him at Redbud Park during her senior year in November 2023.

This student also said they would meet at various hotel rooms in Taylor County for sexual activity throughout her senior year, according to the documents. This student alleged they met at least 10 different times.

“Other students at Cooper High School made suggestions that Grigg publicly exhibited a fondness for [this student] and that, at time, was inappropriate given the nature of the physical contact and isolation from supervision,” the documents state.

Grigg was immediately placed on leave at Abilene ISD at the start of this investigation.

He was officially arrested in August then released from jail after posting a $250,000 bond in September.
