TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An area of low pressure could develop near Florida by this 4th of July weekend, according to the National Hurricane Center.

A frontal boundary is expected to stall and weaken off the southeastern U.S. coast this week, and an area of low pressure could develop from the front by the weekend.

The area of low pressure could develop over the Atlantic waters, off the southeast U.S., over Florida, or over the eastern Gulf, NHC said.

Gradual tropical or subtropical development could occur as the low remains nearly stationary.

The chance for development in the next 48 hours is near-zero. There is a 30% chance of development over the next seven days.

If it becomes a tropical storm, it will be named Chantal.
