It was Augustin’s first camp at Robert M. Conlin Gymnasium since 2019.
“This is home for me. So, coming back here and doing my camps, interacting with the kids, is something I always love doing. I did it for 15 years, and just being able to come back now and do it, it’s amazing,” said DJ Augustin.
Augustin made a name for himself in the Crescent City basketball community after leading the Crusaders to back-to-back state championships in 2004 and 2005.
Hurricane Katrina forced the Brother Martin star to finish his high school career at Fort Bend Hightower High School in Texas.
The McDonald’s All-American still received his diploma from Brother Martin before beginning his college career at the University of Texas at Austin in 2006.
Augustin was the ninth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft and retired in November of 2024 after 15 years in the NBA. His basketball journey has taken him across the country, but he has always considered New Orleans home.
“New Orleans is always going to be home. This is where I was born and raised, lived most of my life. Where I became a man, a young man. It’s always going to be home. We come back here for my camp, and we have family and friends still here. So, New Orleans always has a special place in my heart,” said Augustin.
Augustine’s playing days in the NBA are over, but he has accepted a position in the Houston Rockets’ front office.
He will be a scout with the organization.
