ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A house fire in St. Tammany Parish over the weekend claimed the lives of two people, according to deputies.

Around 3:18 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, St. Tammany Fire Districts 6,8,9 and 12 personnel were alerted to the fire in the 83000 block of Sun Drive in the Village of Sun.

Deputies said during firefighting efforts, the bodies of a 76-year-old and a 56-year-old were located and turned over to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by both the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshal.

Fire Marshal officials said it is unknown if the home had working smoke detectors.

“If you do not have one or need help installing one, the Department’s Operation Save-A-Life program provides free smoke alarms and installation,” said DPS Principal Assistant Chief Bryan J. Adams.
