SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — Police arrested a woman Friday, Aug. 29 in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a child in Slidell.
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, on Aug. 13 deputies responded to a report of a child struck by a vehicle. The boy had been riding his scooter in his driveway when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver fled without stopping. The child’s mother brought him to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.
STPSO officials said 40-year-old Connie Noel Estes of Slidell has been arrested in connection with the incident. She will be booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center and faces charges of felony hit-and-run with death or serious bodily injury and felony obstruction of justice.
Deputies originally arrested and charged 35-year-old Cody Beaudette with vehicular manslaughter in connection with the incident. However, further investigation revealed that a different vehicle had struck the child. The district attorney dropped the vehicular manslaughter charge against Beaudette.
