Dating back to 2011, UNO was under the University of Louisiana System when they faced a decline in enrollment.
Beginning on July 1, 2026, the responsibility for the Lakefront campus will transition from the University of Louisiana system to the LSU system, according to LSU officials. This effort signifies an opportunity to “revitalize enrollment, recalibrate academic offerings and fully leverage the campus’s exceptional lakefront footprint,” LSU officials reported.
The agenda for this transition is to get input on factors such as academics, campus infrastructure, athletics and community partnerships. In addition to this, enhanced healthcare programs in partnership with LSU Health is a focus point during this transition.
According to LSU officials, this transition will represent the “rebirth” of LSU New Orleans Lakefront campus by turning it into a “world-class” LSU institution.
