NEW ORLEANS, La. (WGNO) — The New Orleans Fire Department welcomed Captain Billy, a new Crisis response K-9 Monday, July 21.

According to the NOFD, 2-year-old Captain Billy was announced at a “Passing the Leash,” ceremony. He’s from West Virginia and was provided by a non-profit organization called Thin Line Service Dogs. They provide dogs to first responders and veterans at no cost. The dogs are trained to offer companionship and support.

“We are excited to have Captain Billy in the NOFD family. The department also looks forward to seeing the impact and journey Captain Billy will have on our firefighters,” said Superintendent Roman Nelson.
