NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office announced the conviction of a man in a sexual assault and home invasion case on July 10.

According to the DA’s office, Ericson Gonzalez pled guilty and was convicted for second-degree rape, aggravated burglary, three counts of second-degree kidnapping, three counts of armed robbery, aggravated battery, home invasion and possession of stolen property.

The DA’s office said in early 2022, Gonzalez “terrorized the Vietnamese community in New Orleans East,” including two incidents charged in the case and a series of home burglaries. The home invasion case included the sexual assault of a victim in her 70s and the beating of an additional victim in his 70s. DNA evidence was linked to Gonzalez.

“This is an important day for the survivors in this case,” said District Attorney Williams. “Holding Mr. Gonzalez accountable for what he did is not only due to the great work of the SAKI team, but also a testament to the strength of the community in New Orleans East.”

Gonzalez was sentenced to 35 years at hard labor.
