Bryce and Kimberly Pringle earned their degrees on May 15 after working together on a joint dissertation in the leadership studies program. For Kimberly, choosing her husband as her partner was an easy decision when she discovered students could collaborate on their dissertation. The couple completed their work, titled “Empowering Student Success Through Transformational Academic Advising,” through the university’s accelerated online doctoral program.
When LSUS faculty member, Dr. Stephanie McConnell, heard about the couple’s new studies, she offered family counseling, but for the Pringle family, this was nothing short of a team effort.
“We may not have agreed on everything, but we agreed to finish this thing together. It helped having your spouse in the room, working through the problems. The biggest thing was when we had issues or things we needed to change, we came together to get to a common goal,” said Bryce.
Both Colonels in the U.S. Army stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, the duo found that the program broadened their views on leadership, coupled with their perspectives as leaders in the military. However, the journey doesn’t stop with them. One of their daughters has committed to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge to study psychology with a focus on cognitive neuroscience.
The pair credits their success in the program to the classmates who formed a supportive learning community, and they hope their daughter will encounter the same sense of community.
