HESSMER, La. (KLFY) — An anonymous bomb threat at a nursing home in Rayne led to an arrest of a Hessmer man.

During the investigation, officials identified Jonathan Jones, 22, of Hessmer, Louisiana, as the suspect allegedly responsible for the call. Jones was arrested and charged for communicating false information of planned arson, police said.

According to the Rayne Police Department, they responded to an anonymous bomb threat at The Ellington of Rayne nursing home on July 16.

Although the bomb threat was determined to be false, the elderly residents were put at risk when they were evacuated from the climate-controlled facility during the search, police said.

Earlier today officers located Jones at 3001 Villemarette Street in Hessmer and taken him into custody at the location. Police said the cellular phone used to place the call was recovered.

Officers said Jones’s bond is set at $250,000. Jones was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on additional charges related to drugs and a stolen firearm recovered during today’s search.

A hold has been placed for the Rayne Police Department, and upon posting bond on the Avoyelles Parish charges, Jones will be transferred to the Acadia Parish Jail for further processing, police said.
