NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans is one of only two U.S. cities that were under both French and Spanish rule. But no city celebrates that heritage like New Orleans, and this weekend is a prime example. Get ready to salute the storming of the Bastille as well as being chased by our local version of “bulls”: here are Where Y’at’s
weekend picks!
- First, calling all comic book fans and lovers of science-fiction: starting Friday, July 11, GalaxyCon arrives at the Convention Center. The convention will present star-studded photo ops, celebrity meet-and-greets, and dynamic cosplay competitions.
- Viva la France! The Alliance Française de la Nouvelle-Orléans commemorates the French Republic Friday evening, July 11 with its Bastille Day Fête. A village-style celebration, Bastille Day Fête is a family-friendly festival that features French food, wine, and music along with craft vendors and a costume contest.
- Next, the 19th edition of San Fermin in Nueva Orleans’ Running of the Bulls is Saturday morning, July 12. The race kicks off from Gallier Hall as thousands of participants are chased down by roller girls; a post-race fiesta follows! The weekend also features a Friday night pre-party and Sunday brunch.
- Finally, on Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and July 12 monster trucks take over the Smoothie Center. The Hot Wheels Glow-N-Fire experience is a show unlike any other. Top trucks, such as Tiger Shark and Bigfoot, as well as a motocross team, will perform tricks for the whole family.
