NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Nine of the 10 inmates accused of escaping the Orleans Justice Center faced a judge on Wednesday for arraignment.
They appeared in court via Zoom, with all of them pleading not guilty to simple escape.
Right now, the suspects are being held at Angola Prison without bond. One escapee, Derrick Groves, is still on the run.
“Everyone is entitled to due process. But there’s a video of these detainees running out of the jail in the middle of the night. They were not heading to court hearings. We will continue to hold everyone accountable for the escape,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill.
