According to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s office, Bazley shot Wayne Martin in the face Sept. 25, 2022, in a Marrero parking lot. Martin was celebrating his 30th birthday.
The jury rejected Bazley’s claim that he was defending himself. Bazley alleged that Martin was walking behind him when he brandished a gun and prepared to shoot him. However, the DA’s office said security camera footage showed Bazley walking ahead of Martin and without provocation, Basley turned and shot Martin.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies found no weapons on Martin’s body.
After shooting Martin, Bazley was shot three times by an unknown gunman. Bazley managed to get to his car and drove to his girlfriend’s home. He was arrested the following morning.
