NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Hilda Vasquez was denied bond in her negligent homicide case Monday, Sept. 15.

Vasquez is accused of negligent homicide in the death of her 12-year-old son, Bryan Vasquez.

The judge sided with prosecutors, who argued Vasquez is a threat to her children. They cited her prior convictions of cruelty and substance abuse.

Vasquez’s lawyers argued that she’s not a threat, citing her recently signed stay-away order. The lawyer also argued that the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court should determine her potential threat to public safety, not a criminal court.

Vasquez will remain in jail until the next steps of her criminal case.
