Thor Director Wants a Logan-Style Final Film for Chris Hemsworth
Thor director Kenneth Branagh wants to see a Logan-esque finale for Marvel’s God of Thunder.
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has been going strong for 15 years now and has evolved a ton since hitting the screen in 2011. The Asgardian’s journey was much more Shakespearean at the start, but has become much more comedic and rock and roll in his last couple of films. Many are wondering exactly when Hemsworth will hang up his cape and hammer since many of his initial colleagues have walked away from the MCU. Hemsworth has suggested there will be at least one more Thor movie after Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, but hasn’t said what that may look like.
With that said, Kenneth Branagh has been envisioning an epic and emotional finale for Thor for a while now. The director told Business Insider that he wanted to do more Thor movies and was asked to return after the first film, but ultimately needed a break and turned down the offer for a sequel. If he had continued down that path, Branagh says he would’ve tried to do something more in the vein of Logan, Hugh Jackman’s gritty R-rated Wolverine film.
“I’d always wanted to do more and indeed had a couple of ideas, more in the territory of James Mangold’s brilliant Logan,” Branagh said. “I would love to see Chris Hemsworth and the others have their own individual final story that takes Thor into a glorious twilight.”
So, does this mean Branagh wants back in? He’s not so certain that’s in the cards given the meticulous nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“That’s a whole other question,” Branagh said. “They are so far deep into the future of the Marvel Universe that I’m sure whatever plans they have for it are already kind of set.”
The table is certainly set for a Logan-style movie, if Marvel wants that for Thor. The character’s previous movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, ended with him having his own child companion, who is confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday. It’s unclear how big of a role she will have in the film, but they could make for a strong duo in a future solo film.
