Mark Ruffalo Just Dropped Another Big Marvel Spoiler

Marvel spoiler culprit Mark Ruffalo appears to have leaked yet more information about an upcoming movie — this time, seemingly, for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Speaking at a recent convention, Ruffalo was caught on camera revealing a surprising piece of information about Spider-Man, a character that he will share scenes with in the upcoming Brand New Day. Answering a question about who Spider-Man would be fighting, Ruffalo stated that the character would be seen fighting “an alien in the future” — leading to fan speculation over who, or what, this might be.

“I promise you, one thousand percent, that he’ll be fighting an alien in the future,” Ruffalo can be heard saying in the clip, which is now being passed around social media.

The most obvious suggestion here from fans is Venom, who is indeed an alien. A piece of symbiote was left behind by Tom Hardy’s Venom in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, so this would make sense. But, so far, there’s been no suggestion that Venom will actually play a part in the film — which already has more than half a dozen other villains confirmed.

Could there be some other kind of non-Venom alien in Brand New Day that has so far been kept under wraps? Is Sadie Sink’s character actually an alien — rather than the character everyone now assumes she’s actually playing, Jean Grey? Or could Ruffalo be delving even deeper into spoiler territory and sharing what he already knows of Avengers: Secret Wars, which is set to begin filming in the coming months?

Whatever the case is, fans are taking Ruffalo at his word because — let’s face it — the actor has plenty of form accurately leaking Marvel secrets. Most notable, perhaps, was the time he broadcast the first 20 minutes of Thor: Ragnarök via his Instagram account, after accidentally beginning a livestream while watching the premiere.

Ruffalo is also known for having loose lips in interviews, such when he revealed that “everybody dies” in Avengers: Infinity War (mostly accurate), that Captain America gets married at the end of Avengers: Endgame (also mostly accurate), and most recently when he suggested that both he and Chris Hemsworth would appear in Avengers: Secret Wars (which rather suggests that both characters will survive the events of Avengers: Doomsday).

So, what’s going on here? Give Ruffalo some more time, and he’ll probably tell us. Last year, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu said Marvel was intentionally giving its actors less information on upcoming projects, specifically due to incidents such as those caused by Ruffalo.
