NAB Show: Clear-Com To Debut FreeSpeak Cell Cellular Intercom System

Clear-Com unveiled FreeSpeak Cell, a cellular-based wireless intercom system designed to run over LTE and 5G networks and support large-scale, full‑duplex production communications. The system is debuting at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 18-22.

FreeSpeak Cell is built for operation on public and private LTE and 5G networks to help ease congestion in UHF, DECT and Wi‑Fi bands and extend intercom coverage beyond traditional venue boundaries.

“FreeSpeak Cell represents a shift in how productions approach wireless intercom,” said Bob Boster, Clear-Com president. “We are applying carrier‑grade cellular infrastructure to professional communications, expanding both scale and coverage.”

Aimed at large venues and distributed operations, the system supports deployments of 100 or more beltpacks and can scale to hundreds of users depending on network configuration. By leveraging cellular networks, coverage can extend across campuses, stadium districts and other geographically dispersed production zones.

Key capabilities include operation over LTE and 5G networks; support for CBRS private LTE (Band 48) in the U.S.; dual‑SIM functionality (physical SIM and eSIM); and global radio support across 700–900 MHz and 1700–4200 MHz bands. The dual‑SIM design allows users to blend access to private cellular systems and public carrier networks based on production needs.

FreeSpeak Cell complements the company’s existing FreeSpeak portfolio by extending communications beyond the physical limits of RF‑based systems like FreeSpeak II, which is optimized for contained venues and localized productions.

By riding on existing cellular infrastructure instead of venue‑specific DECT or UHF transceivers, FreeSpeak Cell can reduce on‑site RF hardware, cabling and frequency coordination. It is designed for multi‑channel, full‑duplex voice and to coexist with other IP workflows on the same network, subject to configuration and bandwidth.

Industry drivers include tighter spectrum availability due to government reallocations, heavier congestion in traditional intercom bands, and growing investments in private LTE/5G at major venues. CBRS deployments in the U.S. are enabling private cellular networks for operations spanning communications, POS, access control and video replay; FreeSpeak Cell is built to integrate with those environments and with Clear‑Com’s broader intercom ecosystem.

At launch, FreeSpeak Cell integrates with the Eclipse HX digital matrix platform. Integration with Arcadia Central Station is slated for a few months after release, with Gen‑IC, Clear‑Com’s cloud intercom, planned later in the year.

Availability: FreeSpeak Cell is expected to begin U.S. shipments in spring 2026, with additional regional certifications to follow throughout the year.

Clear-Com is exhibiting at NAB Show 2026.
