Thomas Riedel Buys ARRI, Aligning Camera And Comms Tech For Growth

Thomas Riedel, founder-owner of Riedel Communications and the Riedel Group, acquired ARRI, the Munich-based camera and lighting manufacturer, in what he called the largest deal of his career. Terms were not disclosed.

The move links Riedel’s audio, video and data infrastructure business with ARRI’s camera, lighting and systems portfolio, creating a tighter chain from acquisition through distribution for film, live entertainment and sports customers. ARRI, founded in 1917 and a recipient of 20 Academy scientific and technical awards, will operate independently under its existing management and remain headquartered in Munich.

“For more than a century, ARRI has stood for engineering excellence, innovation and the highest quality. This success story will now continue and remain in German ownership,” said Dr. Walter Stahl, ARRI GmbH managing director and a member of the founding family.

Early collaboration will target live entertainment and sports, with ARRI’s camera technology set to debut at the Eurovision Song Contest, where Riedel is technology provider and NEP is overseeing production.
