Bloomington, Ind. – April 9, 2026
Bloomington police responded to a range of incidents between April 5 and April 8, including domestic violence arrests, a sexual assault arrest, several thefts and crashes, and multiple welfare checks involving mental health concerns, according to daily police summaries.
One of the most serious incidents began April 6 at a home in the 2000 block of South Rockport Road, where a 53-year-old man told officers a woman struck and kicked him, then chased him out of the house with a knife. Police arrested Heather Ingle, 37, on preliminary charges of intimidation, domestic battery and criminal mischief after authorities said she also damaged a Bloomington Police Department drone. Follow-up reports said the Critical Incident Response Team and a crisis negotiator were involved in the response.
Police also reported a sexual assault arrest early April 7. An 18-year-old woman told officers a known man grabbed her buttocks multiple times at a local community center on South Rogers Street. Arnaldo Pineda, 45, was arrested on a preliminary sexual assault charge, according to the summary.
Other violent incidents included a report that a 57-year-old man at College Square on South Walnut Street Pike was strangled by a known male, causing redness and a burning sensation to his neck, and a domestic battery arrest early April 8 at Stadium View III Apartments. In that case, police said Christopher Hunt, 38, allegedly grabbed a 27-year-old woman by the neck, bent her over a counter and pinned her down during an argument.
The summaries also documented several theft-related cases. Those included a stolen package at The Avenue on North College Avenue, a bicycle theft from South Henderson Street, a burglary from a locked storage unit at Limestone Crossing, and multiple shoplifting cases at Target involving trading cards. Police also reported a wallet theft, dine-and-dash complaint and a stolen license plate.
Officers handled several crashes over the three-day period, including injury accidents at West Smith Avenue and South College Avenue, North Walnut Street and East Blue Ridge Drive, and a pedestrian struck in a crosswalk at Sam’s Club on West State Road 45. Police also took multiple hit-and-run reports on April 8.
Several cases involved mental health or welfare concerns. On April 6, officers responding to a welfare check on North Walnut Street later located a 40-year-old man and took him to a local hospital for assistance. Later that night, officers conducting another welfare check transported a 29-year-old man to a hospital after actions and comments indicating self-harm. On April 8, a welfare check at Belle Tire led to the arrest of Nikolas Stratigos, 46, on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated, possession of drugs and possession of paraphernalia.
Bloomington police also reported arrests tied to controlled substances, unlawful handgun possession, outstanding warrants and public intoxication during the period. The reports are preliminary and may not reflect the final outcome of any case.
