Fort Wayne Pastor Delivers Prayer in U.S. House

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WOWO) — A Fort Wayne-area pastor was invited to deliver the opening prayer in the U.S. House of Representatives last Friday during a guest chaplain appearance arranged through an Indiana lawmaker.

Reverend Roger Reece of Associated Churches in Fort Wayne served as guest chaplain at the invitation of U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman of Indiana’s 3rd District, according to Marlin Stutzman.

Reece said his approach to the prayer was intended to be inclusive, noting that chaplain duties are meant to serve people across differing viewpoints.

House officials reviewed the prayer in advance, and Reece also met with House Speaker Mike Johnson and the House chaplain during his visit, according to Mike Johnson.

The appearance marked a guest chaplain role within the daily proceedings of the U.S. House of Representatives, according to congressional officials.
