Ocean County Approves Signal Changes for Jackson, Lakewood, Manchester Intersections

The Ocean County Board of Commissioners greenlit traffic signal upgrades on Wednesday. Jackson, Lakewood, Manchester, and several neighboring towns will get these improvements. New signals will go up, timing will shift, and roads will change to help cars move better and reduce crashes.

Lakewood’s New Hampshire Avenue and Chestnut Street will get a brand-new traffic signal. This ranks as the largest project on the list. More cars have flooded this corridor as years have passed.

Jackson gets signal revisions at two spots. Jackson Mills Road meets Harmony Road at one location. East Veterans Highway, Butterfly Road, and Grand Boulevard converge at another.

North Hope Chapel Road and North Lake Drive in Lakewood will receive signal updates. Manchester Township’s Ridgeway Road and Renaissance Drive intersection will see changes, too — this junction handles both neighborhood and business traffic.

Toms River, Berkeley, Barnegat, and Lacey got the green light for signal work as well. Hooper Avenue near Ocean County Mall stands among the major corridors getting attention.

Frank Applegate Road in Jackson will see no-passing zone modifications. County leaders said the change targets risky passing attempts on rural stretches and high-speed sections.

Speed zones along West Princeton Avenue in Brick will shift. River Road in Brick and Point Pleasant will also get new speed limits.

No construction dates have been announced. These approvals represent the initial phase before workers begin upgrading the road network.

More cars pack the streets each year. Jackson and Lakewood have grown fast, and roads haven’t caught up with all the new buildings and residents.

According to Shore News Network, county leaders say these coordinated fixes will bring traffic control systems up to date. They’re targeting spots where problems happen often. The goal? Safer roads, smoother traffic, and less backup on busy streets.

Thirteen resolutions were passed at Wednesday’s session. Everyone deals with county roads and crossroads that see thousands of cars each day.
