EVANSVILLE, Ind. — March 28, 2026

A 41-year-old Evansville man was arrested Friday after Vanderburgh County deputies said he led officers on a pursuit in a stolen beer truck, struck a sheriff’s patrol vehicle, and crashed in a field in Posey County.

According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received information at about 3:07 p.m. March 27 about a stolen beer truck originating out of Evansville.

Deputies located the truck traveling westbound on Diamond Avenue near Resurrection Drive and attempted a traffic stop, police said. The driver allegedly refused to stop, and the pursuit continued into Posey County.

During the chase, a deputy got out of a patrol vehicle in an attempt to deploy stop sticks, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said the suspect then steered the semi toward the deputy and struck a sheriff’s patrol vehicle.

The patrol vehicle sustained extensive damage, and the semi left the roadway and came to rest in a field, police said. The deputy was not struck and was not injured.

After the crash, the suspect refused to get out of the truck, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies then used pepperball rounds and took him into custody without further incident.

Police identified the suspect as Randall Baker, 41, of Evansville.

Baker was taken to Deaconess Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

He is facing preliminary charges of attempted murder, auto theft, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement, reckless operation of a tractor trailer, and operating while intoxicated.

The case remains under investigation.

The fact that a person has been arrested or charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
