Bloom woman faces arson charges after garage fire
BLOOMSBURG – A Bloomsburg woman is in Columbia County Prison accused of setting fire to a condemned garage earlier this month.
Samantha Ashton, 38, of Bloomsburg, was arraigned Thursday on felony arson, criminal trespassing, risking a catastrophe, and criminal mischief charges.
According to Bloomsburg Police, a detached garage at 598 West Main Street in town caught fire on March 2. The garage was condemned in June of 2024.
A State Police fire marshal was called in and determined the fire was arson.
Ashton was taken into custody Thursday and in an interview, police said she “provided incriminating statements as to how the fire began.”
She was arraigned and committed to Columbia County Prison, unable to post $100,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 8.
