IBC Selects Nine 2026 Accelerator Projects To Drive Media Innovation’

IBC has selected nine projects for its 2026 Accelerator Media Innovation Program, bringing together organizations from broadcast, streaming, live events and media tech to explore emerging innovations.

The projects were chosen from pitches by global media organizations including the BBC, NBCUniversal, DAZN, ITV, Channel 4, Associated Press, Sky and Al Jazeera. Now in its eighth year, the program provides a framework for collaborative projects that address real-world industry needs.

“The Accelerator Program provides a unique sandbox for collaborative innovation, bringing the industry together to solve complex challenges in an open and trusted environment,” Mark Smith, IBC Accelerator Media Innovation Program lead, said. “Each year, we see ideas rapidly evolve into practical solutions.”

Sandeep Tiku, DAZN CTO, said the program acts as “the glue that brings hardware, software, and technology experts together to revolutionize, redefine, and reimagine what streaming will look like.”

Alex Bassett, NBCUniversal innovation VP, noted that the goal is to move beyond proof of concept. “We’re trying to ship something that’s almost a minimum viable product that could be then adopted,” Bassett said.

The selected projects for 2026:

  • Network Control: Your Connection, Your Choice: Uses open 5G network APIs to prioritize broadcast devices for high-quality wireless video.
  • FRAMES: Connects broadcaster archives and AI agents to accelerate pre-production through intelligent content discovery.
  • Q-Stream: A system using predictive AI and hybrid quantum-secure authentication for live broadcasts in bandwidth-limited environments.
  • VooPla: Explores production-accurate digital twins of studios to evaluate technical feasibility and sustainability impacts.
  • From Broadcast to Me-Cast: An AI-native platform using agentic AI to automate live media workflows for real-time personalization in sports.
  • Crystal Clear: Develops a metric for measuring dialogue intelligibility to improve accessibility in broadcast production.
  • Delta Protocol: Shifts live streaming from frame-based delivery to a semantic model to enable hyper-personalized and adaptive experiences.
  • IFeL: Prototypes an end-to-end workflow for immersive live streaming from music festivals.
  • SMART STORIES: A consortium aiming to define an open standard for story context interoperability in live production.

AMD-HP and Shure are associate sponsors of the program, and EIT Culture & Creativity is the 2026 innovation partner.

The projects will now enter a six-month development phase, culminating in live demonstrations in the Accelerator Zone at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, Sept. 11-14.
