The network includes: seven local news channels in the New York tri-state area; five regional channels largely focused on traffic and weather, providing real-time information; an award-winning website, and an app. It’s available on over a dozen streaming platforms.
Content from network journalists is ingested into the PlayBox Neo system and scheduled onto a playlist. Live events are inserted into the playlist in real-time and output as either SDI signals or IP streams. SCTE DPI’s (Digital Program Insertion) trigger ads insertion into live programming. For this customer, modifications were required to the SCTE commands for a couple of its regional headends, which PlayBox Neo accommodated. With Multi-Playout Manager, operators have remote access to update the playlist as the day’s news changes.
Management around the playlist in close to real-time is key to the workflow. The day’s playlist is continually updated with fresh content. Live feeds can be inserted into the playlist immediately, with producers remotely controlling the system most of the time. The easy drag and drop capability allow producers to select and edit stories as needed and build on-air playlists – without master control training.
Using both AirBox Neo and TitleBox Neo, the news service can perform file-based video playback, and live pass-through streaming with graphic overlays. With Multi-Playout Manager producers access the playlist through a remote client software app. Media Gateway provides reception, transmission and conversion of broadcast signals for content delivery and distribution. It allows input IP, SDI and NDI signals to be output in any combination of outputs including video up/down/cross conversion, framerate conversion or/and Encoding/Decoding and Transcoding.
