BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — March 17, 2026
Dan Davis, the missing Illinois man whose disappearance drew attention in Bloomington because of his local ties, has been found dead, according to NBC News and other Chicago-area reports. He was 59.
Davis’ remains were found March 9 on the border of Alsip and Blue Island, Illinois, ending a search that had lasted more than three months. Authorities have not released a cause of death, and Blue Island officials told NBC News the investigation remains ongoing. NBC reported that no foul play was suspected.
Davis had been missing since late November 2025. NBC News reported he was last seen on surveillance video after leaving St. Donatus Church in Blue Island at about 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 26, 2025. Earlier reporting said his family believed he may have suffered a medical episode before disappearing because he appeared confused and disoriented in surveillance footage.
The case drew attention in Indiana because Davis was an Indiana University alumnus, according to earlier reporting by the Indiana Daily Student.
NBC News reported Davis’ daughter, Wendy Davis, had used social media and public search efforts to keep attention on the case during the months he was missing. After his body was found, she thanked supporters and wrote that the “terrible chapter of constant unknown” had ended, even as her family entered a new stage of grief.
Davis’ disappearance had been widely followed in the Chicago area, where he worked for years at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park. Chicago-area outlets reported his body was found near the Blue Island area after extensive searches of abandoned homes, wooded areas and waterways.
Authorities have asked anyone with information about Davis’ disappearance to contact the Blue Island Police Department.
