
Researchers examined state parks with ocean views in 23 states that touch an ocean. New Jersey boasts 41 parks, including National Reserves and National Recreation Areas, that offer ocean views.
According to app.com, this 10-mile barrier island shields New Jersey’s coast from the Atlantic. Sand dunes blanket much of the area. Wetlands dot the property. Forests grow throughout. Tidal marshes flourish here too. The land has stayed undeveloped.
The park sits under two hours by car from New York City and Newark. Writers at islands.com pointed out that visitors find a retreat from city life despite the brief drive.
Guests can fish or hike and the beach draws crowds. Ocean views appear from many spots on the property.
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Big Sur, California, claimed first place. Reid State Park in Georgetown Island, Maine, secured second. Oswald West State Park in Seaside, Oregon, grabbed third and Hunting Island State Park in Beaufort County, South Carolina, took fourth.
The list features parks in Washington, Hawaii, Florida, Rhode Island, Alaska, North Carolina, and Maryland. California landed two parks in the top 15, while Florida and Hawaii each placed two on the list. The rankings zeroed in on parks that protect stretches of coastline throughout the United States. Parks were selected for their scenic beauty and ocean views.
