  • The U.S. Post Office opened at its new location on Bridge and Hawley streets today, replacing the Pleasant Street office which had been in operation since 1904. Constructed at a cost of $630,000, the new building is larger than the old one and has more parking space.
  • Two parent and alumni organizations of St. Michael’s in Northampton today issued a statement blaming the 14 pastors whose parishes send students to the parochial schools for the decision to close the facilities. “The total responsibility for St. Michael’s school’s closing lies with the pastors, whose job it was to contribute spiritually by promoting it and financially by meeting their assessment,” one statement said.
