
GIRARDVILLE – Fast-moving flames wrecked a row of homes along Mahanoy Avenue here Thursday afternoon.
Crews were called to the 300 block of West Mahanoy Avenue around 1pm for a reported structure fire.
Arriving crews found heavy fire coming from the rear of a home at 341 West Mahanoy Avenue.
A second alarm was struck bringing crews from across Schuylkill and Northumberland counties to the scene to assist the Girardville Fire Department.
Flames spread to adjacent homes in the row and it took several hours to bring the blaze under control.
A State Police fire marshal was called to investigate.
At least one of the four homes was occupied. It is not clear how many residents were displaced.
No word on any injuries.
Responding were firefighters from Girardville, Ashland, Mount Carmel, Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, William Penn, Kulpmont, Frackville, Englewood, Pottsville, and more, along with EMS from Ashland.
