Manchester man shot by U.S. Border Patrol agent charged with attempted murder
The person who was shot by a United States Border Patrol officer in Northern New Hampshire has been charged with attempted murder and assault of a federal officer.
Blu Zeke Daly, 26, from Manchester, was shot and injured Sunday morning near the Canadian border after authorities said he shot at the officer, who then returned fire. Daly is receiving medical treatment from a state hospital while under guard.
On Saturday evening, the Border Patrol agent approached Daly while he was driving alone in Stewartstown, about 13 miles from the town of Pittsburg. When the agent asked Daly if he went by any other names — later revealed to be Cullen Zeke Daly — he drove away, according to a complaint.
The federal officer followed Daly at a distance to the Pittsburg Port of Entry on the U.S.-Canada border. It was shortly after midnight on Sunday and the gate was locked. Daly started to turn away when the officer turned his emergency vehicle lights on and left the car.
Daly fired a handgun at the agent, who returned fire with his service weapon and hit Daly, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The extent of Daly’s injuries or his citizenship or immigration status was not released.
Both charges of attempted murder of a federal officer and assault of a federal officer with a deadly weapon each carry a sentence of up to 20 years with a maximum fine of $250,000.
