Woman accused of killing U.S. Border Patrol Agent could face the death penalty

New murder charges in border patrol agent’s death

A woman accused of killing a Minnesota native, a U.S. Border Patrol agent, during a traffic stop could now face the death penalty.

Teresa Youngblut, a 21-year-old woman, could be charged with the death penalty after federal charges were filed against her in connection with the fatal shooting of U.S. Border Patrol agent David Chris Malin during a traffic stop in Vermont.

Since that shooting in January, Youngblut has been indicted on murder and other federal charges. While Vermont abolished the death penalty in 1972, the federal charges open the possibility for Youngblut to be sentenced to a death penalty at the federal level.

Youngblut is affiliated with the Zizians, a controversial group reportedly involved in six murders across three states.

Alongside her indictment, three other members of the Zizian group were arrested in February, including the group’s leader, Jack Lasota, who faces additional weapons and drug-related charges.
