Water restored in town, Lost Creek still without, says Aqua
SHENANDOAH – Aqua says water service has been restored in town, but about 100 customers in the Lost Creek and Rappahannock areas remain out as of Thursday afternoon.
A boil advisory remains in effect for all customers in the former Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah system regardless.
“While system pressure is being restored, Aqua is asking customers to limit non-essential water use to allow our system to continue to recover,” Aqua said in a statement.
“This remains a very fluid situation,” Borough Manager Mike Cadau said. “Testing may proceed as anticipated or could be delayed depending on system conditions, including the possibility of additional main breaks or other unforeseen complications. Testing will not begin until Aqua confirms full restoration of water service in all impacted areas.”
Aqua said finding and stopping the leak in the former Woolworth’s department store on North Main Street in Shenandoah allowed the system to take strides towards recovery.
That leak, which inundated the basement of the store with nearly eight feet of water, was losing 600 gallons of water per minute.
Meanwhile, “We are still working diligently to assess the condition of Lost Creek where approximately 100 customers remain with no water service,” Aqua said.
Aqua still has water trucks available at borough hall in Shenandoah for those in need. They will be available from 8am to 9pm and will be moved inside overnight to prevent the water from freezing.
