Water system returning to normal, Aqua says; boil water advisory could be lifted this weekend

SHENANDOAH – Water company crews were at work across town Thursday, including in the 300 block of West Lloyd Street, repairing water lines as the water system returned to normal capacity.

Aqua Pennsylvania said in an update Thursday that all customers had some level of water service. Though, some customers in the Rappahannock and Girardville portions of the service area reported otherwise.

Water pressure on Shenandoah’s west end returned to normal Thursday. It had been greatly diminished for much of the week, disrupted entirely at times.

A Boil Water Advisory remains in effect for all customers on the former Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah water system now operated by Aqua.

The advisory will remain in effect until two consecutive water test results return compliant 24 hours apart.

Samples were taken Thursday and more will be taken Friday morning. If all goes well, Borough Manager Mike Cadau said the advisory is expected to be lifted Saturday.

“Aqua and Borough personnel are continuing to locate and repair leaks as quickly as possible to stabilize the system and ensure full-service restoration,” Cadau said. “This remains a fluid situation. Updates will continue to be provided as additional information becomes available.”

In the meantime, Aqua is still providing tankers with drinkable water at Shenandoah Borough Hall. They are available from 8am to 9pm and are moving indoors overnight to prevent the water from freezing.
