As part of the launch, PTZOptics is partnering with Moondream, a developer of open-source vision language models, to provide the AI framework necessary for cameras to interpret and act on what they see. The collaboration combines PTZOptics’ robotic camera systems with Moondream’s lightweight models to enable auto-tracking, smarter search, automated indexing, and event-driven triggers.
“The Visual Reasoning concept of turning cameras into intelligent teammates and video into action is too important to be left to one company,” said Paul Richards, PTZOptics chief revenue officer. “Visual Reasoning scales to watch what people can’t, and it expands what we can achieve. Our initiative is growing quickly, and it belongs to everyone — we invite you to join us.”
The initiative aims to move video from a passive signal to usable data that can drive camera moves, graphics, and alerts across broadcast, Pro AV, health care and industrial sectors. Jay Allen, Moondream co-founder, noted that the alignment of controllable cameras with lightweight visual AI makes “automated, practical decision making” possible for a wide range of industries.
PTZOptics highlighted several early partners currently applying the technology:
