Aqua, borough to meet, provide update on water system Wednesday afternoon

SHENANDOAH – Officials from the borough and Aqua Pennsylvania plan to meet this afternoon to discuss steps moving forward as efforts continue to restore water service in town.

A meeting is set for 1pm followed by a press conference.

At last update, Aqua said the boil water advisory remains in effect for the entire former Municipal Authority system, including Shenandoah, Shenandoah Heights, William Penn, Raven Run, Lost Creek, Connerton, Turkey Run, and part of Girardville.

Some parts of the area still have water service, albeit with diminished pressure, while others are still without.

Aqua set up a second tanker truck at borough hall to supply customers with drinkable water. Customers should bring their own jugs or containers and the tanker water does not need to be boiled.

Additionally, the business community north of the mountain is stepping up to help those in need. Fabrizio’s Restaurant in Ashland is offering free water to anyone from the Shenandoah area in need, and Mrs. T’s Pierogies is leading a coalition to muster bottled water donations.

Many businesses in town remain closed Wednesday because of the water outage, including Kowalonek’s, the Lyric, and Francesco’s.

Efforts remain underway to repair the system. Aqua says the issue stems from recent extreme cold and subsequent leaks to the water system. The company says they have crews in town from across the state.
