Twenty-one sound stages fill the complex. Each stage comes equipped with pre-built, lit, standing sets made for vertical storytelling. Mruvka’s vertical micro-drama platform, Verza TV, will operate from this location, churning out more than two vertical micro-dramas each month. Other micro-drama producers can rent space here. Production companies will work alongside independent creators at the facility.
“Paterson is one of the most extraordinary cities in New Jersey and a vibrant community,” Mruvka said in a statement, according to a news release. “Our goal is to engage local schools to help train young people for careers in this fast-growing industry, while drawing investment into Paterson and showcasing the city to the world. Filmology Labs is about creating opportunity — creatively, economically, and culturally.”
Celebrity architect Conrad Roncati of Architectura designed the space. His design eliminates time and money wasted on set design, construction, and lighting. Micro-dramas and web content can now be shot quickly.
The building once served as a silk mill. Locals call it the Padded Wagon Building. Manhattan is twenty minutes away. Producers shooting here can access New Jersey film and media tax credits.
Paterson has welcomed productions like The Many Saints of Newark, A Complete Unknown, West Side Story, and The Irishman in recent years.
“We are thrilled to welcome Filmology Labs to Paterson,” said Paterson Mayor André Sayegh in a statement. “This significant investment will create jobs, spark innovation, and help position our city at the forefront of the evolving media and entertainment economy. Projects like this generate new opportunities for residents, support local businesses, and accelerate Paterson’s continued growth and revitalization.”
Creative office space occupies part of the campus, as well as a commissary can feed 200 people. There’s also a fitness studio where yoga classes will be offered.
