Aldi, roads, Briarcliff and airport discussed during JP Political Forum at KTLO

Baxter County Justice of the Peace candidates took part in a live political forum at KTLO on Tuesday afternoon covering a wide range of topics in the lead up to the March 3 Preferential Primary in Arkansas.

9 candidates in 5 races participated in the broadcast with the only candidate not in attendance being Jay Sabella who is seeking the seat for District 3.

Before the candidates began unopposed JP for District 1 Dennis Frank, who sits on the economic development committee, gave a statement on the steps taken by the court over the last year to bring in grocer chain Aldi.

Current JP for district 9 Cameron Davis, who is seeking reelection, agreed with Franks’ assessment and the steps taken by the county.

Jim Baker, who is challenging Davis for District 9, spoke positively on the progress at Briarcliff when asked about the ongoing situation in that community.

Bob Nault, current JP for District 7, was asked if he thought the recent changes at the Baxter County Airport had a positive or negative impact- changes he had voted against.

In his closing statement Nault’s challenger, Brian Ades shared that he wants to give back to the community that was their for his family last year when his mother-in-law Belva Day went missing.

Rick Steiner, who is seeking another term as JP for District 3, answered the question on the prospect of creating a new city in the area Northeast of Mountain Home and implementing a new sewer system.

Jay Sabella, who is challenging Steiner for the District 3 seat, was not in attendance to offer a response to the possibility of the new city.

Mike McDonald, who is seeking reelection in district 2, was asked how with over the 700 miles of road in the county how can the court ensure all roads receive equal attention during winter weather?
