State Theatre NJ Returns Program With $10 Tickets for Public Assistance Recipients

State Theatre New Jersey has revived its DiscoveryTix Program for the 2026 season. Johnson & Johnson backs the effort. The program grants $10 tickets to all shows for people enrolled in public assistance programs. WIC, SNAP, Medicaid, and the New Jersey Families First Discovery Program all qualify.

The program launched in 2022 to expand access to the arts, and Johnson & Johnson has backed it since the beginning.

“State Theatre serves as a cornerstone, enriching the lives of individuals from all walks of life across New Jersey,” said Sarah K. Chaplin, President & CEO of State Theatre New Jersey, according to New Jersey Stage. “Through the DiscoveryTix Program, we’re making our wide assortment of live shows more accessible—bringing people together through shared experiences that create lasting connections with the performing arts.”

The performing arts center reopened as a nonprofit in 1988, maintaining a commitment to making performing arts and arts education accessible through free and subsidized tickets to vulnerable populations.

More than six million people have walked through its doors since 1988. It’s the largest performing arts center in Central New Jersey. The venue generates over $18 million in total economic impact on New Brunswick and surrounding areas each year.

Past performers at the mainstage have included Diana Ross, Tom Jones, Kevin Hart, Ringo Starr, Melissa Etheridge, John Leguizamo, Harry Connick, Jr., Diana Krall, and Crosby, Stills & Nash. Programming spans Broadway, orchestra, dance, comedy, rock, pop, jazz, and other genres.

The theater celebrated its 100th Anniversary in December 2021 after major renovations, and PBS featured the venue in its documentary series, Treasures of New Jersey, honoring its historic significance as a silent film and vaudeville palace.

DiscoveryTix $10 tickets must be purchased in-person at the box office. Buyers must show either a valid New Jersey Families First Electronic Benefits Transfer card, eWIC EBT card, or Medicaid Benefit Identification Card in-person at Guest Services, located at 15 Livingston Ave. in New Brunswick. Box office hours run Tuesday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The discounted tickets are available only for shows produced by the theater, and seating depends on availability at the time of purchase.
