CUMMINGTON — An 87-year-old woman was killed and another person seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning at the intersection of Route 9 and Fairgrounds Road, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
First responders were dispatched to the crash scene at approximately 9:26 a.m. where a preliminary investigation found that a Toyota Corolla traveling northbound on Fairgrounds Road entered the intersection of Route 9 and collided with a box truck traveling eastbound on Route 9.
The 87-year-old woman, who was driving the car, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a front-seat passenger in the car was seriously injured and taken by medical helicopter to Baystate Medical Center. The driver of the box truck was not injured and remained cooperative at the scene, according to DA spokesperson Melissa Sippel.
The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the DA’s Office, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, Crime Scene Services, and the Cummington Police Department.
