ISP investigating double fatality in Linton; officials say no ongoing threat

LINTON, Ind. – January 12, 2026

Indiana State Police detectives from the Bloomington District are investigating after two people were found dead from gunshot wounds at a Linton residence late Sunday, according to a statement posted on Facebook Monday, Jan. 12, 2026.

State police said the investigation began at about 9:14 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, after the Linton Police Department responded to a call at a residence in the area of 8th Street NW. Officers found a male and a female deceased from gunshot wounds, police said.

The Linton Police Department requested Indiana State Police assistance to lead the investigation, and detectives and crime scene investigators worked overnight processing the scene, according to the statement. The investigation remains in its preliminary stages.

State police said their initial findings indicate there is no ongoing threat to residents of Linton or the Greene County community. Autopsies are pending to determine the official cause and manner of death, and the names of the deceased were being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
