    Vigil after shooting at Stewartville high schoolThe community came together five days after a shooting outside the school left a student critically hurt and the suspected gunman dead.

Community members stood side by side with candles Wednesday night as they continue to mourn a shooting outside Stewartville High School last week.

Last Friday at around 5 a.m., a member of the high school wrestling team was shot and critically hurt in the school parking lot as the wrestling team waited on a bus to go to a meet. A former wrestler at the school, the suspected gunman, was also found dead in the parking lot, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office.

Five days later, the injured teen remains hospitalized.

“I was pretty emotional on Monday, like processing everything,” Stewartville student Landon Hay told KAAL-TV. “Being in the building for the first time since the incident.”

“There’s going to be a lot of people in the community that don’t know how to start this conversation, they don’t know how to talk up to somebody and say hey I’m really struggling with this,” CarolAnn Jackson, who with her husband Charles helped organize the vigil, added.

The school district says it has extra support staff ready to help anyone struggling after the tragedy.

The investigation into the reason for the shooting is still ongoing.
