BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — December 5, 2025
A 19-year-old Indiana University student riding a bicycle was critically injured Friday afternoon when he was struck by a car on North Bottom Road near West Maple Grove Road, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 3:47 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a serious injury crash involving a Honda Accord and a bicycle, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. A 20-year-old man was driving the Honda when it collided with the cyclist.
The bicyclist was taken by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and is in critical condition, according to the sheriff’s office. Initial radio traffic indicated the rider had traumatic injuries, was conscious but not responding to questions, and was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Deputies said the driver of the Honda remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Members of the Major Crash Investigation Team responded and are actively investigating the incident.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has video footage is asked to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 812-349-2781. Updates will be released as they become available, the sheriff’s office said.
