MnDOT preparing 800 snowplows for wintry weather
How MnDOT is preparing for holiday week snowThe Twin Cities is expected to get its first real snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Minnesota will get its first real taste of snow this season on Tuesday, and that has plow drivers getting ready.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) says it is prepared to deploy 800 snowplows across the state. In the Twin Cities, they’ll likely start at around 8 p.m., as the rain preceding the snow prevents any pretreatment from working.

While crews will do their best, MnDOT is reminding drivers to check road conditions before heading out. Once on the road, slow down and use more caution as everyone gets reacclimated to winter driving.
“These first snow events, we’ve got a warmer base out there, so much of the snow may be sticking to the grass before it sticks to the roadway. But gosh, in areas where we’re gonna see a little bit more snow amount — 4, 6, up to 12 inches of snow — we’re definitely gonna see some of that snow sticking to the roads, so you want to be prepared,” MnDOT spokesperson Anne Meyer said.
Minnesota’s Weather Authority is currently forecasting up to 3-6 inches of snow across the Twin Cities metro by Wednesday morning, with less farther south and as much as 8 inches up north.
