New Minnesota pro volleyball team

It seems that interest in Minnesota pro volleyball teams has been spiking in recent weeks.

On Tuesday, Major League Volleyball (MLV) announced it would be adding Minnesota as one of its newest franchises in 2027, with the team set to play its home matches at Grand Casino Arena.

The news comes just days after League One Volleyball announced that Minnesota would join its league as an expansion franchise, also set to begin play in 2027.

The number of MLV franchises will bump up to 11, with eight current teams in Atlanta, Columbus, Dallas, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Omaha, Orlando and San Diego, along with Minnesota joining other expansion teams in Washington, D.C. and Northern California.

The new Minnesota franchise will be majority owned and operated by Minnesota Sports & Entertainment, which also owns the Minnesota Wild. Minority owners include Tim Connelly, Matt Mithun, Cara Mulder, Chuck Runyon and Dave Mortenson.

“We are extremely excited to announce that Minnesota will be home to a new Major League Volleyball team beginning in 2027,” said Craig Leipold, majority owner and principal investor in Minnesota Sports & Entertainment. “Minnesota has a strong and vibrant volleyball culture that continues to flourish. We can’t wait for fans to have the opportunity to watch the best volleyball players in the world compete at Grand Casino Arena.”
