There will be a new Team USA at the final men’s Olympic curling qualifier next month.
Sunday night, the Chaska-based team led by Danny Casper dethroned John Shuster’s club in a three-game final at the Olympic Trials.
Shuster, who led Team USA to a thrilling gold medal win in the 2018 Olympic Games, had led a curling dynasty in the U.S., representing America in every Olympics since 2006.
That’s it.Incredible, historic runs by John Shuster (every Olympics since 2006) & his @TeamShuster (the last 4 Games) come to a close.Danny Casper’s Chaska-based rink takes down the dynasty with a 7-5 win. They will be “Team USA” at the final Olympic qualifier in Dec. pic.twitter.com/fy2kGT8C4x— Chris Long (@ChrisLongKSTP) November 17, 2025
Casper and his team took Game 1 of the trials to get the upper hand but Shuster, from Superior, Wis., and his side responded in the second game to force the decisive round. That’s where Team Casper landed the knockout blow.
Shuster, a five-time Olympian who skips his team out of Duluth, could try to take the USA curling crown back in the future, but it’ll be Team Casper representing the U.S. at the 2026 Winter Games.
Casper is a New York native but graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2024 and skips his team out of Chaska.
