The Arrest And Discovery
Police say the case began on April 6, 2025, when officers responded to a suspicious person call at the CVS Pharmacy in the 1500 block of North Market Street. Officers arrived and found 29-year-old Carldeaundre Dewayne Morgan in the parking lot wearing a ski mask that matched the caller’s description.
During a safety pat-down, officers discovered a 9mm pistol with a round chambered inside Morgan’s left jacket pocket. Morgan had a previous 2019 conviction for possession of a firearm while also possessing a controlled dangerous substance, making it illegal for him to have a weapon. Officers arrested him at the scene.
The Trial And Verdict
In Judge Donald E. Hathaway Jr.’s courtroom, a six-man, six-woman jury unanimously found Morgan guilty-as-charged of being a felon in possession of a firearm. A fingerprint expert confirmed that Morgan was the same individual convicted in 2019.
Assistant District Attorneys Christopher Bowman and Chase Burgess prosecuted the case, while Harry Johnson of the Caddo Parish Public Defender’s Office represented Morgan. Love Shreveport-Bossier Media confirmed that the jury’s quick verdict followed clear testimony from officers and forensic experts.
Sentencing And Habitual Offender Status
Morgan will return to court for sentencing on November 18, 2025. Because he has two prior felony convictions, prosecutors plan to seek a habitual offender enhancement. This enhancement raises the sentencing range to 6 years and 8 months up to 40 years in prison. The sentence must be served without parole, probation, or suspension.
The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office said this case reflects its ongoing commitment to reducing violent crime and removing repeat offenders from the community. Love Shreveport-Bossier Media will provide updates following sentencing later this month.
