Traffic stop by Fort Wayne police leads to discovery of over 65 pounds of cocaine stashed under dog cage

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A traffic stop led police to the discovery of a large amount of cocaine last week that had been hidden underneath a dog cage in the back of a pickup truck.

According to a press release from the Fort Wayne Police Department, uniformed detectives with the narcotics division pulled over a Chevy Silverado with Florida plates for speeding on Thursday, November 6. A K-9 team called to the scene detected the possible presence of illegal drugs.

When the driver got out of the pickup, detectives spotted a handgun in plain view. In the bed of the truck, there was a large dog inside a cage. Under the cage, police found a hidden compartment. When they removed the access panel to the compartment, they found approximately 30 individually wrapped kilos, or more than 65 pounds, of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $600,000.
