Braun: Partial SNAP benefits to be issued to eligible Indiana residents

INDIANAPOLIS — Officials with the office of Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced that partial benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will soon be issued to eligible Indiana residents.

According to a news release from Braun’s office, officials said that SNAP benefits will begin processing on Monday and are expected to be available on qualifying EBT cards starting Tuesday.

The U.S. Senate voted on Sunday evening to advance a proposal that could reopen the federal government after a group of Democrats joined Republicans in the vote. According to previous reports,

SNAP benefits have been impacted by the ongoing shutdown.

On Sunday, a federal appeals court order stated that SNAP benefits are required to be paid during the shutdown, according to previous reports. This comes after the Donald Trump administration made a bid to halt the order.

“After weeks of gridlock, it’s good to see some folks in D.C. finally come to their senses,” Braun said in the release. “Senate Democrats held this up far too long, but they’ve finally relented. SNAP benefits are on the way, and Indiana is well-positioned to distribute them as soon as possible.”

Officials said that the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration “remains in close contact with federal partners and is prepared to respond quickly to any further changes in federal policy or funding.”

Indiana residents expecting November SNAP benefits should check the balance on their EBT cards on Tuesday. Individuals who require immediate food assistance are encouraged to call 211 or contact their local food bank.
